Grounds for election

Adrian served the Society as its Assistant Librarian from 1980 to 2016, and has acquired a wide and unrivalled knowledge of the collections and antiquarian studies in general, through which he has assisted many scholars and visitors to the Library. For 36 years, therefore, he has been able, through his knowledgeable guidance, to deliver the Society’s objectives of encouraging the advancement and the furtherance of the study and knowledge of Antiquities and History of this and other countries. He has also given lectures to the Society on aspects of the Society’s collections - Horace Walpole’s vision of antiquity, Thomas Hearne’s ‘Antiquities of Great Britain’, and the Society’s collections of early photographs. His scholarly publications have been concerned with the analysis of aspects of historical meteorological observations, most recently a chapter with M. Stenhoff in R. Doe (ed.), Extreme weather: forty years of the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (Wiley Blackwell 2015).
