Sabine Gaudzinski-Windheuser was appointed in 2003 as Professor of Prehistory at the Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz (Germany) and Director of the Monrepos Archaeological Research Centre and Museum for the Evolution of Human Behaviour at Neuwied (Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum, a Leibniz Society Research Museum). She has held visiting positions at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Universities of Cologne, Basle and Leiden. Professor Gaudzinski-Windheuser is the leading archaeozoologist of Pleistocene fauna in Europe and her interests include the taphonomic analysis of Pleistocene hominin subsistence in Europe and the Levant. In particular she studies prey exploitation strategies and the high antiquity of hominin hunting as a behavioural pattern. She has published widely including 10 research monographs on major Pleistocene collections.
