Grounds for election

Dr Jayne Carroll is Associate Professor in English and Director of the Institute for Name-Studies at the University of Nottingham. Her PhD was on English, Scandinavian, and Latin poetry of the 10th and 11th centuries but she now works mainly on place-names and is at the forefront of their use in inter-disciplinary studies of Anglo-Saxon landscape, society and culture. She was Principal Investigator on the AHRC-funded project "The Place-Names of Shropshire" (volume in press), and Co-Investigator on the Leverhulme-funded projects "Travel and Communication in Anglo-Saxon England", "Landscapes of Governance in Anglo-Saxon England", and "The Impact of Diasporas in the Making of Britain". Her many publications include articles on Old English and Old Norse poetry, and on English place-names, and she has edited the verse of Þórðr Kolbeinsson and Markús Skeggjason for the series "Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages".
