Charlotte Higgins is chief culture writer of the Guardian and member of its editorial board. She is a prominent cultural commentator, broadcaster and speaker. She is the author of several books on the ancient world: "Under Another Sky: Journeys in Roman Britain" (Jonathan Cape, 2013) was shortlisted for several prizes including the Samuel Johnson prize for non-fiction. Dealing with the encounter over time with the remains of Roman Britain, it examined the antiquarian tradition, with material on figures such as Stukeley, Lysons, Collingwood, Verney Wheeler as well as a number of present fellows. Further books will also touch on antiquarian research in Britain: her next, also for Jonathan Cape, will be about mazes and labyrinths. She is an associate member of the Centre for the Study of Greek and Roman antiquity at Corpus Christi, Oxford, was a Roman Society council member (2011-14), and is a trustee of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
