Grounds for election

Fiona Robertson is a literary historian and textual scholar with particular expertise in the works of Sir Walter Scott. She has published extensively on Scott, including work on his antiquarian interests and his significance as an editor of medieval texts. Her published Scott studies include the first scholarly edition of The Bride of Lammermoor (1991), the monograph Legitimate Histories: Scott, Gothic, and the Authorities of Fiction (1994), and the Edinburgh Companion to Sir Walter Scott (2012). In 2014 she organized a conference on ‘The Heraldic Imagination’ at the Society of Antiquaries, and she is co-editing two collections of essays arising from that conference. Currently Horace Walpole Professor of English Literature at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, she was Reader in English at Durham and a Research Fellow of Hertford College, Oxford. She is an external advisor to the AHRC-funded research project on literary and architectural history, ‘Writing Britain’s Ruins, 1700-1850’.
