Grounds for election

An expert on the history of medieval and early modern London, Matthew has been professor of Urban History at the IHR, University of London, since 2012. He has overseen over a dozen innovative research and digitization projects in metropolitan history, and created a successful Masters programme in Historical Research. He has a fine record of supervising successful doctoral candidates. He has co-authored and edited many publications, most recently the forthcoming BRA 2-volume London and Middlesex Hearth Tax of 1666, (with V. Harding, J. Price and A.Wareham), and has contributed over 150 biographies to the History of Parliament: The Commons 1422-1504, due out in 2016. He sits on many commitees relevant to his field, including the Historic Towns Atlas Committee, and for 3 years served on the London Advisory Committee of English Heritage. Internationally, he has been a visiting fellow at (among others) the Huntington Library in San Marino, and the Folger Shakespeare Library, Washington DC.
