Grounds for election

As Finds Officer in the Department of Urban Archaeology, Museum of London, 1974-1991, he led the research and publication programme, and organised finds for the historic exhibition at the Tower Pageant which in 1993 won a UK Museum of Year Award. Thereafter, he was a consultant to the Hong Kong Antiquities Office. From 1992 he was Principal Curator and Head of Museum Services, Torbay Borough Council, responsible for the restoration and display of Torre Abbey with £11.5 million in funding. He provided curatorial support for Brixham and Torquay Museums, and was Chairman of the Devon Museums Group. He is now an independent curatorial adviser. He has many publications on Roman and medieval archaeology especially on London, including in the ‘Antiquaries Journal’, and his Doctorial thesis was on Charles Roach Smith, the ‘father of London’s archaeology.’ His most recent book is ‘Devon’s Torre Abbey – Faith, Politics & Grand Designs’ (The History Press, Stroud 2015).
