Grounds for election
Peter Petchey is a professional archaeologist who has over the last 20 years, undertaken fieldwork and related research in several different fields. For ten years, he was on the staff of the Origins of Angkor Project in Northeast Thailand, where he undertook the detailed recording of about 700 prehistoric burials. He has been prominent in the historic archaeology of the Otago region of southern New Zealand, bring a prominent advocate for conservation and restoration of early buildings and archaeological remains. For his doctoral dissertation, he explored the archaeology of the historic Otago goldfields. In 2009 he directed excavations at the Watom Island Lapita project. He is now on the staff of the French Archaeological Mission to Myanmar. Petchey regularly publishes the results of his research in major journals, for example Petchey, P., et al. . (2015) ‘A Spanish Man-o-War in New Zealand? The 1864 Wreck of Grafton .’ International Journal of Nautical Archaeology. Vol. 44:362-370.
