Grounds for election

John Bedford's father had given the Evan Bedford Library of Cardiology to the Royal College of Physicians in 1971. He, in his own field, has equaled this achievement. His library of Furniture History, formed over 45 years, and from which books are lent to major exhibitions, has been consulted, and information therein published, by the best known academic authorities, for example V & A staff; former Keeper of Temple Newsam Museum, Dr. Christopher Gilbert; Lady White; Dr. T.G Smith, Chairman Sch of Architecture, University of Notre Dame, US, acknowledging also the National Art Library V&A, Dept of Prints Met New York. Susan Stuart, author of the standard work on Gillows of Lancaster, thanks him as a tower of strength and generosity. The library (EBLFH), which is destined for the Wallace Collection, comprises Printed Books; Original Designs; Drawings, Archives, Inventories; Auction Cats; Trade Cats; Trade Cards; Bills, Accounts; Misc. Ephemera; Cabinet Makers Archive; General Archive.
