Tom has worked for the past eight years as an Inspector of Historic Buildings for Historic England. He trained as an architectural historian at the University of York and the Courtauld Institute of Art and has published on the early career of Nicholas Hawksmoor. He has a postgraduate diploma in historic building conservation from the Architectural Association and is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. His role at Historic England has involved him advising on major new works and repairs to many historic sites, including Canterbury Cathedral, Brighton Pavilion, Chatham Dockyard, Charing Archbishop's Palace,St Augustine's church Ramsgate and Knole House, Kent. He is also a member of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for Canterbury and is currently researching nineteenth-century church interiors of William Butterfield.
