Grounds for election

Professor Neils is a foremost authority on the art and archeology of ancient Athens, and has written several books and numerous articles on the Parthenon and on Greek vases. In addition to holding visiting appointments at Princeton and Johns Hopkins, she is the recipient of many grants and fellowships in support of her research, including the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation. She has published two books for the British Museum: Women in the Ancient World (2011; also in German), and A Concise Introduction to Ancient Greece (2008, also in Chinese). Her article 'Praxiteles to Caravaggio: The Apollo Sauroktonos Redefined' will appear in the next issue of the Art Bulletin. Professor Neils has also been active on field projects in Sicily, Italy, and Greece, and is currently publishing the imported pottery excavated at Morgantina,Sicily. She has recently been appointed as Director of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
