Grounds for election

One of our leading heritage professionals, Jane Ryder has held leadership and board roles in numerous heritage organisations, in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. Since 2015 she has been the first Chair of Historic Environment Scotland, the new body formed from the merger of Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on Ancient Monuments of Scotland. She has been Director of the Scottish Museums Council (1995-2003), Chief Executive, Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (2003- 2011) and Chair, Arts & Business Scotland (2011- 2015). UK board roles include Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives (1999- 2003) and the Marine Management Organisation (2010- 2016). She is a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, carrying out research into cultural policy in Romania and Bulgaria. Her publications include A National Audit of Scotland’s museums (2003) and Governance and management in UK Museums (2006).
