Dominic Selwood FRHistS is an independent scholar who has written widely on many historical topics. His history of the Knights Templar, Knights of the Cloister: Templars and Hospitallers in Central-Southern Occitania, 1100–1300, appeared in 1998. His most recent book, Spies, Sadists and Sorcerers: The History You Weren’t Taught at School, was published in 2015. He is a regular speaker on cultural matters, and has participated in panel discussions at the British Museum. He is an occasional columnist for the broadsheet newspapers and the Spectator, and has made both radio and TV appearances. His research interests include the crusades and medieval religious organisation. His monograph ‘Quidem autem dubitaverunt: The Saint, the Sinner, the Temple and a Possible Chronology’ (1996) offered a revised date and chronology for St Bernard’s influential letter on crusading. He is a popular lecturer, and audiences range from schools and universities to British Museum expert panel discussions.
