Grounds for election

Dr Launaro has made a substantial contribution to the archaeology of Roman Italy. His PhD research (published as 'Peasants and Slaves. The Rural Population of Roman Italy (200 BC to AD 100)', CUP 2011) was a major study of the use of archaeological field survey evidence. He has subsequently led a major fieldwork and excavation project focused on the city of Interamna Lirenas (Lazio), combining the latest techniques of geophysical survey with excavation, and making particular use of the pottery evidence. He has published widely on this project in the UK and internationally. His other publications also include works on the Roman economy.
