Grounds for election

Dr Holder's is a field archaeologist, historian and academic with a particular involvement medieval monastic archaeology. He has special interest in material evidence for death, burial and commemoration in religious houses. In this context, he is developing a research project using the evidence of exhumed bodies from cemeteries. His contribution to collaborative excavation reports at the Museum of London led to the ‘Highly Commended’ prize in the biennial British Archaeological Awards and 'honourable mention’ in the 2016 London Archaeological Prize. In 2010 he was on the academic advisory committee to the Shakespeare Globe Trust, advising on the design for the new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. In 2013, he carried out historical research for the University of Leicester team who discovered the burial place of Richard III.
