Grounds for election

Dr Fenwick is an emerging leader in the field of Islamic Archaeology. Prior to her current appointment, she completed post-doctoral projects in the US (at Brown University) and in the UK (a Leverhulme Fellowship at Leicester/UCL). She has published a number of key papers on North African archaeology of the late Antique/Islamic periods, and is currently completing a monograph and co-edited Handbook on these topics. Dr Fenwick has organised numerous research events in recent years, including a major conference on ‘The Origins of the Islamic State’, and has been highly successful in attracting research awards. The former include a British Academy Rising Star Engagement award, a major Society for Libyan Studies grant, and a Loeb Classical Library Foundation Fellowship. These grants have supported fieldwork projects at sites such as Volubulis (Morocco) and Bulla Regia (Tunisia). She has also recently received recognition for her teaching, as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
