Previous to her appointment as Director of the Victorian Society of America Summer School in London, Jo was Head of Adult Programmes at the V&A for ten years (2006-2016), following her position as Head of Learning at the National Portrait Gallery (2004-2006). She has lectured extensively, organised a wide range of conferences and curated various exhibitions. Apart from numerous catalogues, her publications include William Morris and the Middle Ages (1984), Victorian Interior Design (1991), and the two volume Encyclopaedia of Interior Design (1997). She is currently curating an exhibition on William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement for the Juan March Fundacion in Madrid, due to open in autumn 2017 before transferring to the Museo Nacional in Barcelona in 2018.
