Grounds for election
Dr Gleba has a background in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology and has worked on excavations in Italy, Turkey and Ukraine. Her specialist subject is the archaeology of textile production. She was for four years programme manager of the Textile and Costume research project at the Centre for Textile Research, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. This was followed by a two-year Marie Curie Research Fellowship at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London, investigating the development and use of textile fibres in Italy from prehistory until the Roman period. She is currently principal investigator of a five-year ERC-funded project, Production and Consumption of Textiles in the Mediterranean from 1000 to 500 BCE (PROCON). She teaches in BA and MA courses and introduced an MA module on Textile Archaeology at UCL. Her books include Textile Production in Pre-Roman Italy (Oxbow 2008) and a number of edited volumes on related subjects.
