Grounds for election
Sophie Hay has made a significant contribution to the practice and understanding of the use of geophysics in archaeological recording and analysis through a large number of articles in both scholarly journals and popular publications. Her doctorate studied the building sequence of a group of houses in Pompeii (insula 9 of region I) where she also took a leading part in a campaign of excavations for the British School at Rome and the University of Reading. Dr. Hay has worked extensively on other sites in Italy - such as Otricoli (co-published with Professor Martin Millett), Teano, Tivoli and the Villa Adriana, Herculaneum, and the Domus Aurea in Rome- as well as sites in LIbya, Sudan, Tunisia and Turkey.
