Grounds for election
Lt-Col Tim Purbrick is the British Army staff officer responsible for delivering a Military Cultural Property Protection (CPP) capability, as required by the Hague Convention. A former regular cavalry officer, he has a civilian career as contemporary art consultant for Nevill Keating Pictures and previously worked for the Art Loss Register. As a reserves officer in the Concepts Branch at Army HQ in 2013 he took the personal initiative to respond to growing calls for the UK to develop a CPP capability for theatres of war, writing a substantial paper on the topic and setting up a working group which he continues to chair. Since then he has worked tirelessly with the UK Blue Shield Committee, the museum, archaeological and heritage sectors, foreign military CPP units, NATO and relevant military command and support structures at home to drive through the creation of a CPP Group within the British Army and ensure that cultural heritage issues inform the Army's approach to all operations.
