Grounds for election

Peter J. Berridge read archaeology in the Dep of Archaeology, University College Cardiff. He spent four years working on the archaeology of Stonehenge as a research assistant to the late Prof R.J.C. Atkinson. He spent five years as a freelance archaeological and museum consultant in Devon and Cornwall. During that time his main areas of research were the Mesolithic and Neolithic of Cornwall, Devon and Wales and he published widely. In 1994 he became Curator of Archaeology at Colchester Museum. Peter contributed to Essex Archaeology with a series of reports on excavated prehistoric lithics and an architectural study of Colchester castle. He was later promoted to director of Colchester Museum and created an innovative joint-service between Colchester and Ipswich Museums, a development that was hailed as a ground-breaking partnership between two local authorities in adjacent counties. Six years later he left to pursue a career as a freelance museum and archaeology consultant.
