Grounds for election

Mary Harlow is a pioneering scholar of the ancient life course, dress, textile production, and dyestuffs. After appointments at St Andrews, the Open University, and Birmingham, she moved to Leicester in 2013 as Senior Lecturer in Ancient History and is now Associate Professor. She has held a Leverhulme Research Fellowship on Dress & Identity in Late Antiquity, and a visiting professorship at the Centre for Textile Research, Copenhagen. Her publications include Growing Up & Growing Old in Ancient Rome (Routledge, 2002, with R. Laurence) and influential edited and co-edited volumes including The Clothed Body in the Ancient World (Oxbow, 2005), Age & Ageing in the Roman Empire (Soc. for Promotion of Roman Studies, 2007), A Cultural History of Childhood & Family in Antiquity (Berg, 2010), Dress & Identity (Archaeopress, 2012), Families in the Roman & Late Antique World (Continuum, 2012), Greek & Roman Textiles & Dress (Oxbow, 2014), and A Cultural History of Dress & Fashion (2017).
