Grounds for election

Dr. Ian Shaw's research projects are primarily concerned with ancient Egyptian landscape, ethnicity, technology, innovation, material culture & urbanisation. He has directed projects in Egypt at Hatnub, Wadi el-Hudi, Gebel el-Asr, Gurob harem palace & Wadi Hammamat. His lecturing experience is: Cambridge where (JRF 1990-94), UCL (lecturer, 1994-99), Liverpool (reader, 2000-15) and Chester (professor, 2015-16). Visiting professor at Yale, Macquarie, Monash and Changchun (China). He was Vice-Chair (2005-7) & Chair (2007-10) of Egypt Exploration Society. Publications include Ancient Egyptian Technology & Innovation (2012), Hatnub: Quarrying Travertine in Ancient Egypt (2010), Ancient Egypt: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2004), Oxford History of Ancient Egypt (OUP, 2000), Ancient Egyptian Materials & Technology (CUP, 2000), A Dictionary of Archaeology (Blackwell, 1999) & British Museum Dictionary of Ancient Egypt (BMP, 1995; 2008).
