Jonathan Benjamin is a specialist in early prehistory, underwater archaeology and the archaeology of submerged prehistoric landscapes. He took his PhD in Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh (2007) and is currently Senior Lecturer at Flinders University, South Australia where he serves as Co-Chair of the UNESCO UNITWIN Network for Underwater Archaeology. He was an active early-stage-research member of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology Action SPLASHCOS (2009-2013), was lead editor of Submerged Prehistory (Oxbow Books, 2011), and led Project SAMPHIRE, a community-based marine heritage project that won the Europa Nostra award in 2017. He has undertaken terrestrial, aerial and underwater archaeological research on prehistoric to classical and historical periods in Britain, Slovenia, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel, Denmark, the USA and Australia. He has published in leading journals in archaeology and is a well-known international expert in coastal and underwater archaeology
