Grounds for election

Throughout his career he has been active researching geological collections and carrying out archaeological fieldwork. His major work has been the initial recognition and then excavation of Bronze Age metal mining and extraction in Britain. An important aspect of this has been the experimental reconstruction of the possible methods by which the ores were smelted in remote antiquity. This research has produced more than 50 academic papers, including major monographs on the Bronze Age mines at Cwmystwyth in Wales and Eacton and Alderley Edge in England.
