Kieran McCarthy has undertaken research in various aspects of Carl Faberge's work, publishing articles in scholarly periodicals on the subject and lecturing both in the United Kingdom (for the Royal Collection both at Holyrood and the Queen's Gallery, the Scott Research Polar Institute at the University of Cambridge, and the Society of Jewellery Historians, for example) and in St. Petersburg (for the Faberge Museum) on his findings. His book 'Faberge in London, the British Branch of the Russian Imperial Goldsmith', was published by the Antique Collectors' Club in 2016. He is a member of the advisory board of the Faberge Museum in St. Petersburg. Alongside his specialist knowledge of the work of the Russian goldsmith, his expertise in antique jewellery has developed over his 22 years at Wartski. He was instrumental in the republication of Joan Evans' definitive survey of posy rings entitled 'English Posies and Posy Rings' in 2012, first published in 1931.
