Dr David Skinner has emerged in the last decade as one of the foremost historical musicologists. His research centres upon musical institutions, manuscripts and composers of sixteenth-century Europe, especially music and the Reformation in England. A large portion of his doctoral thesis was published in The Arundel Choirbook (Roxburghe Club, 2003), and he has since produced numerous music editions, facsimile volumes, and articles, most recently The Anne Boleyn Music Book (Royal College of Music, 2017). His identification of Queen Catherine Parr as the author of a contrafactum of Tallis’s antiphon Gaude gloriosa dei mater received wide media coverage. He is currently completing a new edition of Tallis’s Latin church music. As a presenter and advisor he has worked extensively for BBC radio and television. He is also artistic director of the early music ensemble Alamire.
