Has contributed to the definition and growth of archaeological science as a discipline, through his own research and by training dozens of Master’s students and over 25 PhD students from 20+ countries. Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Archaeological Science, and President-Elect of the International Society for Archaeological Sciences, among multiple editorial and academic service roles. 120+ publications and 120+ invited talks in ca. 20 countries, in addition to exhibitions and mass media contributions (CBA Award to the Best Public Presentation of Archaeology 2014). Director of research on China’s Terracotta Army project (designated British Academy Project), archaeometallurgy in Africa and America, and the archaeology of European alchemy and chemistry. Has attracted competitive funding from AHRC, EPSRC, European Union, British Academy, etc. and received awards from the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry, among others.
