Grounds for election
Has significantly contributed to the study of the public perceptions and experience of archaeology and of Iron Age to Early Medieval pasts in the UK, Italy and Europe more at large. Is sole editor of the first volume on digital engagement with archaeology (2012). Has pioneered a novel ethnographic methodology that encompasses immersive data-intensive approaches and qualitative methods, and uses social media as well as other web data to study the legacies and values of ideas and materials from the ancient past in present-day Britain. Finally, has spearheaded the set-up of public archaeology as a field of study in Italy, through a foundational and widely-cited article (2009), and other national-scale activities such as the First Italian Congress on Public Archaeology (2012). Has also advocated for a ‘sociological movement’ in Public Archaeology, arguing in favour of a more theory-informed and methodologically structured paradigm for the study of archaeology in the modern world.
