Grounds for election

Prof. Rajak is an internationally recognized scholar of the ancient world with a long list of publications focused on texts and material evidence of the Jewish diaspora. Her most recent book is Translation and Survival: The Greek Bible of the Ancient Jewish Diaspora (2009) shortlisted for the 2010 Runciman prize. She currently serves as Senior Research Fellows at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies and Somerville College. She has held many distinguished visiting professorships including those at Oxford, Yale University, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, Tel Aviv University, Williams College, Hebrew University, and Humbolt University (Berlin). She now serves as chair of the Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society and from 1987-1994 on the board's executive committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund.
