Dr Brittain-Catlin is a leading architectural historian of the 19th-21st centuries, specializing in the study of A.W.N.Pugin. He has published extensively since 1997 with numerous articles in architectural periodicals, chapters in books (notably in S. Charlton & E.Harwood, eds, 100 Buildings 100 Years (2014)), and books. His major publications are The English parsonage in the early nineteenth century (Reading, 2008), Leonard Manasseh & Partners (London 2010) and Bleak Houses: Disappointment and Failure in Architecture (Cambridge, Mass. and London, 2014). As architect he has worked on a wide variety of design projects for conservation and restoration both in Britain and abroad. He is currently Reader in the Kent School of Architecture, and vice-chairman of the Twentieth Century Society.
