Grounds for election

Dr Brunning is the curator of the European Early Medieval Collections at the British Museum, which incorporates the material from Sutton Hoo. She is a leading expert on the material culture of the early Medieval period, with a particular focus on Anglo-Saxon metalwork including sword fittings. She has published widely, including papers on Anglo-Saxon and Viking swords and a Viking divination staff and is soon to publish a book on swords in early Medieval Northern Europe. She also works on Irish material (including a study of the Breadalbane brooch) and is collaborating on the publication of the Vale of York hoard. Dr Brunning co-ordinates the British Museum's knowledge exchange programme with the Danish National Museum. She is also working on a major study of the cemetery at St Peter's Tip in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Cambridge. She was lead curator of the Sir Paul and Lady Ruddock Gallery of Sutton Hoo and Europe which opened at the British Museum in 2014.
