Professor Dame 'Jinty' Nelson is one of the leading historians of medieval Europe. Her writings have spanned the themes of kingship, government and political ideas, and , more recently religion and ritual. She has published over 200 books and papers, including four themed collections of her papers. She is currently writing a book on Charlemagne, has co-directed the Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England, and is co-editor of The Oxford History of Medieval Europe.
