Dr Hall was formerly Chief Education Officer of the Church of England, and since becoming Dean of Westminster in 2006 he has founded Westminster Abbey Education Centre. He is currently leading the visionary project to open the Abbey's triforium to the public and create a major new museum and gallery there to display the treasures and tell the story of the Abbey. He has facilitated much archaeological and architectural research, and is proactive in conservation and publication at the Abbey. Under his leadership the Coronation Chair and Cosmati pavement have been conserved, and the medieval cellarium opened to the public. He is author of "Queen Elizabeth II and Her Church" (2012), and has contributed to numerous other publications.
