Grounds for election

A specialist in the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, Rosa Bacile published her MA thesis: ‘Stimulating perception of Kingship: Royal Imagery in the Church of St Mary of the Admiral and the Cathedral of Monreale’, in 2004 in Al Masaq. Her Dphil thesis, on the porphyry tombs of the Norman kings, contributes greatly to our knowledge of porphyry carving techniques and the re-use and imitation of antique spolia. Dr Bacile was Acquisitions Manager at the Tate Gallery from 2001 to 2010. Having served on the council of the British Archaeological Association (2009-2012), she is on the steering committee of the BAA international conference series on Romanesque inaugurated in 2010. In 2012, with John McNeil, she co-convened and organised the second conference, entitled: ‘Romanesque and the Mediterranean’, in Palermo, and is editing the conference papers for publication in 2014, preparing her thesis for publication and has submitted a proposal on porphyry carving to Oxford and Palermo universities.
