Professor Bruzelius, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, is Anne M. Cogan Professor of Art, Art History and Visual Studies at Duke University and currently Krautheimer Professor at the Hertziana Library, Rome (2013-14). She was director of the American Academy in Rome, 1994 98. Her field of research is Gothic architecture in France and Italy, especially that of mendicant religious congregations, focusing on the impact of their practices on urban design and monastic planning. Committed to developing new 3D digital technologies to communicate historical narratives about the built environment, in 2010 she initiated Visualizing Venice, a team-based project to create a database and website for the city. Recipient of many prestigious awards for her teaching and research and author of numerous scholarly articles, her recent books include The Stones of Naples: Church Building in the Angevin Italy, 1266-1343’ (Yale 2004) and, as co-author, Campania Gotica (Milan 2010).
