Grounds for election

Susanne Hakenbeck is Lecturer in Historical Archaeology in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge University, and has previously held post-doctoral research fellowships at Southampton University and the McDonald Institute, Cambridge. Her research interests focus on the social transformations that followed the collapse of the Roman empire. She has undertaken and published innovative research on gender, kinship and mobility in central Europe from the 4th to the early 6th centuries AD and her book Local, Regional and Ethnic Identities in Early Medieval Bavaria was awarded the 2009 Ottone d’Assia-Riccardo Francovich Prize of the Society of Italian Medieval Archaeologists. She is currently investigating the impact of the so-called Hunnic migrations on the Carpathian basin using life-time changes in diet, as revealed by isotope analysis, to illuminate both the mobility of individuals and changing identities in relation to subsistence strategies.
