Grounds for election
Dr Andrew Rudd works primarily on the literature and culture of the Romantic period. He has written on the following areas: the literature and history of British India; Romantic orientalism; Romantic poetry; links between literature and early 19th-century architecture. He is currently researching depictions of charity in Romantic-period literature and art, and also has interests in 20th-century maritime travel and exploration. He has held numerous visiting fellowships (most recently at Yale’s Lewis Walpole Library and the School of Advanced Studies in English, University of Jadavpur) and speaks regularly at conferences, seminars and public events. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Peer Review College. He is the author of the monograph Sympathy and India in British Literature, 1770-1830 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and several articles and book chapters.
