Her PhD, on the relationship between sight and the concept of insight in the figurative arts of the Baroque, was undertaken as part of the exhibition Baroque 1620-1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence (V&A 2009). She subsequently worked at the Courtauld Gallery and at the NPG before joining the National Trust in 2014. Amongst her current responsibilities is Ham House. She has broad research interests in the relationship between European religious history and visual culture, particularly portraiture and has published extensively on the subject, including ‘Power and Sacred Art’ in the catalogue to Baroque 1620-1800 and was co-author, with Tarnya Cooper, of Elizabeth I and her people (2013) and Tudor Portraits (2014). She regularly contributes to conferences and is one of the most accomplished of the National Trust’s curators.
