Grounds for election

Naoíse Mac Sweeney is Associate Professor of Ancient History at the University of Leicester. She completed her MA in Classics at University College London and her Ph.D. at King’s College, Cambridge. After working for a time in policy research in the areas of conflict, development and race relations, she held a research fellowship at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, before being appointed at Leicester in 2010. Her research and teaching range widely across the history and archaeology of ancient Greece and Anatolia. As well as peer-reviewed papers, she has published books on Community Identity and Archaeology: Dynamic Communities at Aphrodisias and Beycesultan (2011); Foundation Myths and Politics in Ancient Ionia (2013); Foundation Myths in Ancient Societies (edited, 2015); Troy: Myth, City, Icon (2018); and Homer’s Iliad and the Trojan War (with J. Haywood; in press). In 2015 she was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize for early career researchers by the Leverhulme Trust.
