Grounds for election

Associate Professor Andrew Jamieson is an outstanding researcher, teacher and promoter of Classics and Archaeology in the community. He is internationally recognised as a scholar in the field of Near Eastern Archaeology particularly in Iron Age ceramics. He has excavated in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. His 80 publications include a seminal book on Neo-Assyrian pottery from Tell Ahmar. He has also published widely on museology and conservation. His career has involved not only academia but employment in Heritage Victoria (still a Council member) and Curator of the Classics collection in the Ian Potter Museum, where he curated 22 exhibitions, attracting thousands of visitors. He initiated ‘Classics-in-the-City’, a public lecture series. In 2015 he won a prestigious award for teaching excellence. In 2017, he was invited by UNESCO to be on their roster of experts. He represents Australia on the international council of SHIRIN, working on heritage issues resulting from the Syrian conflict.
