Grounds for election

Dr Thistlethwaite is the leading academic authority on the history of 19th-century organ building and design. Author of 'The making of the Victorian organ' (Cambridge University Press, 1990) and co-editor of the standard student text-book, 'The Cambridge companion to the organ' (1998); he has published more than sixty articles and monographs, and lectures in this country and abroad. He is a former Chairman of the British Institute of Organ Studies, has advised English Heritage and The Heritage Lottery Fund on organ projects, and has served on the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England as well as the Westminster Abbey Fabric Commission. A former chaplain to Caius College Cambridge, he was a canon of Guildford cathedral before retiring from that post.
