Born in 1951, Ian Scott graduated in Archaeology at Cardiff, studied Roman missile weapons from Britain, and became Research Assistant to Professor WH Manning, drafting the Usk legionary fortress 2nd excavation report (Manning 1989). He was Post-Excavation Manager for Test Valley Archaeological Trust from 1986-91, and later (1991-94) Assistant Director. Publications included Romsey Abbey (Scott 1996). From 1994-2001 he was Senior Research Officer at Oxford Archaeology (OA), writing specialist reports, managing post-excavation for Camber Castle and Stanwick villa, Raunds and editing monographs for publication. He worked freelance from 2001-6, notably on finds from medieval Stafford Castle, Roman and Saxon Higham Ferrers and Roman Westhawk Farm, Kent. In 2006 he rejoined OA as a specialist and editor, where he still works. Throughout his career Ian has also written a wide range of metals reports for others, has contributed to articles and syntheses, and is widely respected for his work.
