Grounds for election

John Adamson worked at Cambridge University Press from 1974 to 1987 and as Head of Publications at the National Portrait Gallery from 1987 to 1992. He is an established independent publisher specializing in the history of material culture, with particular focus on silver studies, including catalogues of clocks, enamels and glass for the Wallace Collection, and of silver for the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and American private collections. He has translated catalogues from French for the Louvre, the Musee Guimet, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, the Musee Rodin and regional French museums. He co-authored Maharajas' Jewels, 2000. He published Antique Woodworking Tools, 2010,on behalf of a private collector and has contributed articles on that subject to US and UK journals. He published Noble Households: Eighteenth Century Inventories for the Mark Fitch Fund, 2006; an Irish sequel is forthcoming, 2018.
