Grounds for election
Oliver Harris is a highly respected archaeologist, researcher and university teacher, who specialises in Neolithic studies, archaeological theory, and field practice. He has worked in commercial archaeology, and directs the Ardnamurchan Transitions Project, which won a national Archaeological Training Forum award (2014), and included the first archaeological excavation of a Viking boat burial on the UK mainland (Antiquity issue 355). He has published numerous articles on the Neolithic, and has produced several books, including, jointly authored with Craig Cipolla, Archaeological Theory in the New Millennium (2017). The Body in History (edited with John Robb) won the Association of American publisher’s PROSE awards for both best book in Archaeology and Anthropology, and for excellence in the Social Sciences, in 2013. He won the Philip Leverhulme Prize for Archaeology in 2016 and has been awarded the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Curl Lectureship for 2019.
