Grounds for election

During and after his 40-year career at West Sussex Record Office, Tim McCann has been active locally and nationally as an archivist and a historian of recusancy and cricket, in which he has published extensively. His catalogue of the estate archive of the Dukes of Richmond (to whom he remains honorary archivist) appeared in 1984, as was his Correspondence of the Dukes of Richmond and Newcastle, 1724-1750; following his Sussex cricket in the eighteenth century (SRS, 2004) he was appointed Cricket Statistician of the Year. He has led a revival of interest in the Sussex polymath Edward Heron-Allen, and taken leading roles in the Catholic Record Society, the Sussex Record Society and the Sussex Archaeological Society, whose editorial board he chairs, and of which he was elected a vice-president in 2014. He has been tireless in his encouragement of the work of others, a generous mentor to young professionals and a willing collaborator in numerous scholarly projects.
