Paul Fox retired from the British Army as a Lt Col. He is currently a member of the Cultural Property Protection (CPP) team at Newcastle University, a member of the UK Committee of the Blue Shield, and part of the secretariat for Blue Shield International, delivering external education and training in CPP in armed conflict to global audiences. Paul is a historian of visual culture specialising in the representation of armed conflict. His research centres on issues relating to the global protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict. Previous research included visual representation of battlefield behaviour in German illustrated histories, 1871-1933; and British imperial cultures of looting and trophy taking, on the British Military Encounters with Egypt, 1798—1918 project. He has taught at UCL on the representation of violence and destruction; the construction of national and gendered identities at war; and the militarisation of social and geographical landscapes.
