Grounds for election

Caroline Barron is an Ancient Historian with a particular research interest in Latin epigraphy. Following a BA in English and Latin at the University of Leeds, she spent several years living in Rome working in cultural heritage. She returned to London in 2008 to pursue an MA in Classics at KCL, where she also undertook a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Henrik Mouritsen. Her thesis was titled ‘Tourists and Texts: Latin Inscriptions in the Grand Tour Collections of Eighteenth Century England’, which considered the presence of epigraphic material in private collections. Caroline has also worked on two digital editions of ancient inscriptions: Inscriptions of Roman Tripolitania and IOSPE, and helped catalogue the Latin inscriptions of the British Museum for online publication between 2014-2017. In 2018 she held a BSR Rome Award and in 2019 joins Birkbeck University as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, with a project on ‘Fake Inscriptions and the 18th Century Art Market'.
