Grounds for election

Dr Breay is Head of Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern MSS at the British Library. She has been lead curator and co-editor of catalogues for the Library's major exhibitions on Magna Carta (2015) and Anglo Saxon Kingdoms (2018-9). Before joining the BL in 1998, Claire worked for two years as an archivist at Lambeth Palace Library. She has experience in managing several large research projects and worked on the successful fundraising campaign (2010-12) to acquire the St Cuthbert Gospel for the national collection. Publications include The St Cuthbert Gospel: Studies on the Insular Manuscript of the Gospel of John (co-editor, 2015) and Magna Carta: Manuscripts and Myths (2002). An interest in medieval cartularies, the subject of her PhD, led to her publication The Cartulary of Chatteris Abbey (1999); and a new edition of G.R.C. Davis, Medieval Cartularies of Great Britain and Ireland (co-reviser, 2010). She is Secretary of the Assoc. for Archives and Manuscripts in Research Collections
