Dr Brumm is an Associate Professor in the Australian Research Centre of Human Evolution (ARCHE), Griffith University, Brisbane. After degrees in anthropology and archaeology, he completed his PhD in 2007 at ANU on “The end of the Movius Line: Palaeolithic stone technology from a Southeast Asian Perspective”. He undertook a two year fellowship at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, Cambridge, and since 2009 has been at the Universities of Wollongong and Griffith. His research has focused on the early human settlement of south-east Asia with numerous papers including in Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Journal of Human Evolution. His work includes ground-breaking research on Palaeolithic cave art in Borneo, the redating of Homo floriensis and the earliest human occupation of Flores and Sulawesi. He has received many awards, most recently Griffith University Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award for Outstanding Research Achievement.
